Is the water safe to drink?

Overall, the water supply of Costa Rica is safe.  Official estimates are that 97% of the country has safe drinking water.  However, people that tend to have sensitive stomachs should stick to bottled water.  Outside of urban areas it is wise to ask about the quality of the local water before drinking.  On the reservations quality water is rare and purification is recomended before drinking from most sources.
